1.They are not mounted on the system start up.

2.They are mounted with a different name each time.,so you have to remap your music library every single time.(Eg.In RhythmBox music player you get the notification “files missing”)

3.The names are meaningless so you cant differentiate between partitions.

4.Almost every help on customizing the windows partiotns include editing the /etc/fstab file which was not easy and didnt work most of the times.

Here is an easy solution which I wonder nobody metioned in the help forums i checked. I use Ubuntu 9.04 (codenamed Jaunty Jackalope) and i think this solution will work even in the previous versions. So here is how i did it.

1.From your panel go to Applications->Add/Remove..

2.Now search “Storage Device Manager” there

3.In the search results tick “Storage Device Manager” and click “Apply Changes”(Make sure you have an active internet connection).Now it will be installed in your system.

4.After the installation is complete, from your panel go to System->Administration->Storage Device Manager

5.Now you will see a window like the one below

6.Click on sda(or watever) to show devices under it and select a partions to view its details.You can give a name for each windows partions so that its mounted under that name everytime you boot.(Its better not to edit any properties of linux partitions, the name field will be disabled for them.)

7.Click on Assistant to edit various options that can be customized for that parttion.

8. Now check the option “The File system is mounted at boot time” under the the “Mounting” tab.Browse through various options and other tabs to explore other customizable options.(Dont change anything, if you dont have a clue what it is).

9.Click “OK” ,Apply and Close.Then Reboot the sytem. Now you will find that all the partions have been mounted with the given name.

10.Now you can add your media library to the music player and dont have to do it everytime.

I had Windows XP installed in my office PC last week, since I had to shift my domain to .NET and Silverlight. Some software needed for me had an online installer.  That is when I found out that some sites including microsoft.com,AVG and symantec, while other sites work just fine Some guys in the office told me that it may be due to virus or trojan. So I installed AVG and scanned the system,but nothing changed. Then I googled around for a different solution and found the following one working for me.Anyway i still dont know why it happened.

1. Cloose all applications
2. Close / disable startup applications (such as skype, messenger, or any background application)
3. Start/Settings/Control Panel/Internet Options/Delete Browsing History/Delete All (in passwords)
4. Also delete files and settings stored by add-ons (check) and click ok
5. Close all windows, and files, (just in case) nothing has to be open
6. Go to Start/run
7. Type in the open: %temp%
8. Press enter
9. Start deleting the temp files

10. You might not be able to delete some of the files, because ther are in use. Leave them alone.

11. When you get the error: Error Deleting file or folder click ok and continue deleting some of the files by type

12. When you are done. Reboot the computer
